OCA’s MA Fine Art has been roundly praised by the external examiner who recently said:
‘A particular strength of the programme is both the level and integration of theory in relation to practice and the students’ contextual awareness of their work in relation to contemporary practice.’

OCA’s MA Fine Art is about professionalising your visual arts practice, whatever form that takes. We accept art practitioners working across a wide range of media and disciplines onto the course, from painters and textiles artists, to photography and video practitioners. The current cohort includes conceptual artists, sculptors, those focusing on video art work, painters and a photographer. The three components of the course are Visual Enquiry, Studio Practice and Final Project which incorporate reflective and professional practice. The core course programme is augmented by a variety of online visiting lecturers in response to student need and practice. These lecturers offer one to one tutorials and video lectures, with online seminars using group video. There is an annual workshop and the current cohort of students have just met up to review the gallery where their final show in 2014 will be held.
The course was praised by the external examiner in his feedback in late 2012 and OCA looks forward to continuing the excellent start of the MA, and is recruiting now for a September start on this cohort based, three year, part time course.
The cost of the course is £2,275 for year one, and the same in years two and three with cost of living adjustments. The Course Leader, Caroline Wright, is a successful art practitioner engaged in several high profile art projects and has lectured at several universities in England and abroad. Angela Rogers (who also tutors on the undergraduate programmes) also tutors on the course. We will be drawing visiting lecturers from other Higher Education Institutes, as well as drawing on our existing bank of undergraduate tutors, selecting tutors from the disciplines represented in the next cohort. This could include photography specialists as well as painting specialists, as required, for example; if students studying textiles need specialist input, we will invite textiles visiting lecturers to contribute to the course programme.
