From Sheffield to Oklahoma

Front page of the Stillwater Gazette

The wonders of the internet. A painting executed on my iPhone in Sheffield (UK) has hit the front page of the Stillwater Gazette in Oklahoma.  I am delighted with the quirky journey from my phone to front page.  I belong to a Flickr group called ‘Fingerpaint this!’  that every week offers challenges for iPhone artists.  A few weeks ago the challenge was to do a painting to interpret a photo of the Stillwater Lift Bridge (in a small township somewhere near the middle of the USA).  It was a complex bridge with lots of ironwork and pulleys, and I enjoyed creating a bright abstract image from the starting point offered by the bridge.  Then one of my Flickr ‘friends’ asked if he could submit the images of the bridge done by the Flickr group from the photo he’d taken to the local paper.  We all agreed, and they picked two images for the front page including mine.  I find it a marvel that the first time I had ever seen my image in print was a digital photo of the hard copy newspaper from America, on Flickr!
