The photograph above is from an exhibition of work by OCA photography student Omar Camilleri. I say exhibition, although it probably more correct to call the work an installation. Either way, it shows Omar’s work to great effect, taking the Maltese ‘pavaljuni’ form hanging over the heads of passers by in Merchant Street in Valletta. It is a conceptual piece and a collaboration between Omar and two other artists. Omar writes eloquently about the work on his blog and I highly recommend taking a look. I am grateful to Course Leader and Tutor Alan Whetton for drawing Omar’s work to my attention and to Omar not just for his creative talents but for having the enterprise to pull together the financial supporters to make this happen.

Why do people keep on upping the ante…?
Must be awesome to see your work displayed like this. Congratulations Omar.
Thanks
Rob
What a great idea – and great execution as well. You must be really pleased. Congratulations.
It just shows what can be achieved if you put yourself ‘out there’ with determination and imagination.
Well done!
Congratulations Omar. I guess you’ll get a lot more viewers than you might in an Exhibition.
Great concept!
Wonderful piece. Congratulations Omar!
See Yiann? Nothing wrong with photographing feet!
Omar, nice one! Like Rob said, you’ve most certainly put a new standard for others to strive towards.
Exceptional photos visible on your blog as well.
Credit given where due.
I know!;-D It’s so refreshing.
Thought it was going to be you when I read the heading…
Wow, congrats… must give you a great feeling to see your work displayed like this! I agree with Dewald… you’ve set a new standard for us, other students, to strive towards.
Thanks for all the positive feedback. In fact when I saw them for the first time mounted on the street even I was pleasantly surprised by their powerful effect. I encourge everyone to put forward your ideas and work towards reaching your goal. The only negative aspect of taking part in a project like this is the financial aspect but an option would be to get a number of sponsors.
Yes. the images on your blog are certainly exceptional. I was wondering as well whether you might have advice to give regarding obtaining sponsors.
Congratulations Omar. The display looks very impressive.
This work is excellent and raises debate on so many levels: inter-disciplinarity, photos of photos, temporary, layered and fractured images, overlapping picture planes, relations between site and sight(and more)… practical and philosophical issues that arise from a truly contemporary and culturally conscious art practice. Well done Omar
