Fees for 2014/15

We are announcing today the fees which will apply in the next academic year (from 1 September 2014 to 31 August 2015).
For students paying our standard fees, i.e. all students who started studying after 31 May 2012, the fees will remain unchanged.
For students who pay our lower fee rates (Protected Students), the fees will increase by 1.5% which corresponds with the official estimate of annual inflation in May rounded to the nearest £5. This means that no Protected Student will pay more than an additional £15 for their next course.
A full fee schedule is available to download here.
Separately the Trustees have reviewed the standard discount on the first course with the OCA. While the discount clearly reduces the financial barrier to study for some students, it is not clear that it represents the best use of the charity’s funds. For this reason the discount will cease on 31 August. New and existing students who face difficulties affording the cost of study will continue to be able to apply for bursaries from our Learner Support Fund.

  • My partner has applied for tuition fee funding to cover the cost of the fees for the 6-year part time Photography BSc (Hons) course, but has been told by Student Finance England that the Dept. for Business Innovation and Skills has withdrawn its designation for the OCA, and that she can no longer obtain a tuition fee loan. Is this correct?? According to the SFE’s own list of designated courses, the OCA Photography course is still there, but I have been told by the SFE that this is a mistake and it should be removed. What is the situation here, as the OCA website implies that a tuition fee loan can be obtained?

  • Dear Julian
We are constantly going round in circles with student finance queries due to inconsistent advice given to students. Basically, you have been given the wrong information by Student Finance England. We were waiting for BIS to approve our funding designation for the 2014/15 year, but this was formally given a couple of weeks ago. Now we are waiting for Student Finance England to give us access to update our course information on their system. So, a tuition fee loan can be obtained and if you have any difficulty dealing with Student Finance England you should call our office and ask to speak to Dee Whitmore, who is our Head of Operations and the main contact for Student Finance problems.
I’m sure we can resolve your partner’s specific query without any major fuss.
